Mother Teresa as an Advocate for the Family Mother Teresa considered the family unit a sacred creation. "Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share this joy with all you met, especially your family." "Try to put in the hearts of your children a love for home. Make them long to be with their families. So much sin could be avoided if our people really loved their homes."
On behalf of the family, Mother was outspoken against abortion. She often commented that abortion was a crime against children, women, and life. For her, life was something that came from the hand of God, and she took every opportunity to teach others to respect this ultimate gift of new life. On the issue, she spoke with conviction, courage, and truth. "If you are afraid of the child, turn it over to me. I will take care of him and God will not let him lack anything. Let us learn from the poor. The poor person never will commit abortion. It is possible that she may abandon her child, but she will never kill him or her. The country which is afraid of its children is a poor country, the poorest of all countries."
